Pedals
I
don't know who drives Phoenix but they must be assumed to have very
narrow feet. I guess those fancy Sparco racing boots probably are
a bit minimal in the width department, and the Phoenix wouldn't
accomodate massive folk, but either way in normal shoes the brake pedal
is very close to the side panel (and hence the accelerator gap is
tiny).
Previously I had decided that I would get narrow shoes, but then the
idea of SVA dawned and I realised that it wasn't just me who would need
to get this working. So, time to adjust the pedals. To
summarise the steps:
Pedals out, heat, bending, heat, paint (Por 15, is my new favourite
system although rubber gloves are essential), pedals back in.
Here is a photo.

It is all squarer than it looks in this photo, Funny angles in the picture.
Welding
I eventually found someone locally who is a good welder.
Previously one of the rack mount brackets had to go, as it was in
the same place as a bit of the rack! So (somewhat rashly, as I
thought it was a tube) I cut it out. It turns out that a bit
of filling might have been good enough. Anyway I cut it out, and
needed a new one to replace it. I can't weld, so this was an
issue. I found someone locally who welded it up very nicely.
Also as he was good I got him to weld the steering column (downlink) I
had some nice thick tube, and it was an adjustable downlink so this
will be plenty strong enough. I followed John Bonnetts example
and put a roll-pin at each end too.
More Por 15 to tidy up the job.
Other problems:
Fuel filler hose doesn't align with the hole in the bodywork (damn, I don't want to cut a new hole).
I didn't get quite as much done this month as I signed up for a bike
ride. Oxford to Cambridge was only a one day event, but I lost a few
days doing some long-ish rides getting prepared. There's my
excuse.
